Just before midsommar

The time really flies here in Brekille. The weather has now improved significantly again, the sun is shining and this is doubly good, because the mosquitoes don’t like the sun – but we do! Our après-sun spray tank empties so quickly again.
Unfortunately Emma, the Swedish Wwoofer, went  back home. Working. Before she left, she bought an old caravan from Molle. And so it is clear that she and her dog Fröken will soon return to Brekille, to fix the caravan and of course, to WOOFF a little more. We miss them already.

Sadly, we have to leave Brekille also in a few days. Everything is great here, the Garden and The property here is huge and the seclusion impressive. And the inhabitants of this small community are so open, friendly and cordial. And the food is excellent: in the evening we all eat together, there is always fresh lettuce, herbs and other products from the garden. Yummi!
Molle bakes every two or three days fresh, delicious bread. (That’s also kind of necessary, because there is no bakery here around anyway…)

Last Sunday, the café opened in the lower part of the house, in the barn and in the adjacent garden. This time Brekille celebrated the „Konst-Café“, one of the thematic meetings for all friends and acquaintances in Brekille newsletter. We cooked and baked a lot and Amelie and I had decided to make the famous „spiral-Kex!

yummi! that smells good...

In addition to metal sculptures and photographs from India, there were to admire local ceramics. And we felt very happy that Johanna, Chie and Mattias came extra from Sandkulla to visit us! What a very nice afternoon.

The next major action in Brekille will be the public screening of the World Cup final on July 11th. But not for us, because we will continue our journey to the east cost of Sweden, the area around Kalmar. But until then we have an exciting weekend ahead of us, because tomorrow is the legendary Midsommar-celebration! And Molle, our host, insists to celebrate it the very traditional way, with sill, herring and fresh potatoes for dinner and a selfmade midsummer-tree to dance around. And of course singing and drinking some “Snaps”… Skal!

Molle explaines the basics of keeping bees / busy, busy bees / tasting honey

Yestersay Molle showed us his bee-colonies. Two are even here on the farm, all others are currently five minutes away by car stationed at a field of rape, which is about to bloom. Before we went, we were allowed to taste the homemade honey of last year. Incredible tasty! As the bright rapeseed honey is mild, with such a creamy consistency. A dream! And the other two also! Mmmmmhhh.

Actually the funny clothes were more than necessary. Bees want to protect their honey nd we seem to be the hungry bears who want to steel it. So we learned: If you don’t want a stitch of a bee. Wear white, or at least bright clothes, because the bees seem to like bright colors more than dark ones. Trousers have to be in your shoes and put your jacket in the pants! Because bees only run uphill.

feels like a space suit

After the bee-sightseeing we went to a lake nearby. The weather was warm and sunny, and we decided to have a little picknick. Wonderfully idyllic and as lonely as a Brekille itself. A little bridge betrays the best place for swimming.  We listened to the wind in the leaves and watched the sun on the water that was clear, but because of the high humus content had a bronze glow. By the way, the water had only 11 degrees. But we were brave and jumped into it! Brrrrrr!

Brrrr, it's so co-hold!

What a wonderful day! In the evening we booked our train back to Germany. We will take the night train from Malmö, but this time there is even a compartment for us! Travelling by train is so much cheaper here in Sweden than in Germany. We will arrive at the 9th of August, 8 o’clock, Leipzig Main Station. But until then, there is so much more to discover and to record here in Sweden!

And speaking of „record“:

1st: My arm got a bee sting on the second day, and reacted quite intense. After a week, the forearm reduced the swelling, and the skin doesn’t any longer feel like hot leather. The whole thing looks just like this:

... itching's gone, too! Almost.

2nd: Amelies Netbook took a big draft of (very tasty) blueberry-tea. After the screwing, drying with the hairdryer, some really careful cleaning and a day of anxious waiting, “the little one”“resumed the service without any murmur. Even If he said „hej då”  immediately after the teatime J

Mainboards need love as well!

So it is settled: we are still very good!
